Christmas Blinkies

Christmas Blinkies

This is a set of projects that produces chains of blinking lights in an assortment of shapes. This can be used in a graphical way to mimic the apeparance of a Christmas tree or other lighting such as is commonly put up around that time of year. A short overview of the possibilities can be seen in the video.

Because it is fully editable, all parameters and the appearance can be changed to your needs, so it is suitable for other festive graphics like chains of flags, strings of pearls or any shape you can think of. Some of the setups even feature some fake pseudo-dynamics so they can sway in the wind. Please refer to the included PDF for some more info.

Be aware that I cannot offer any form of guaranteed support if you can’t figure out things. You can ask me questions on forums or shoot me a mail, but accept that the stuff being free, you are not entitled to demand anything. Likewise, I reserve the right to withdraw, rework and modify stuff as I see fit. As they say "Availability may be subject to change.".

Note:Though some content may be listed, you will not find it for immediate download. This is due to bandwidth and file size constraints. You will also encounter situations, where only parts of the content are provided instantly or none at all. Such content can be made available and adapted to your needs, but this will need to be on a paid basis via different methods.

Radar – Dradis – Light Grid

Dradis

This collection of 3 separate projects allows you to create any variation you can think of when it comes to radars, sonars and other scanning device screens. Because everything is determined with expressions, you need not worry about all that blinking and labeling. You just animate your targets and adapt the design, and the code does the rest. The package contains the reference designs illustrated in the clip below. The setup with the light grid can be produced by cloning a prototype light with the expressions and then adjusting the parameters of the grid. Similarly, the other setups can be modified by replacing the layer in teh timeline or modifying the pre-comps.

Symmetrion

Symmetrion

Symmetrion is a toolbox of projects that allows you to create mesh and grid structures easily, deal with large amounts of points easily and, most importantly, provides an easier way of creating deformations in FreeForm Pro, including symmetrical "modelling". Please refer to the PDF document in the package for more details.

Inevitably this project shows a variation on the DNA helix theme using Shapeshifter.

Pillars in Decay

Pillars in Decay

This is sort of a tech demo illustrating various techniques how you can manipulate displacement maps and use advanced features like shadow casting and the depth buffer output in FreeForm Pro to create detailed scenes, in this case an eroding Acropolis with a couple of crumbling pillars.

Eyes of the Medusae

Eyes of the Medusae

This is the first project in a series of hopefully several more (if I ever get around to finishing everything) using Digieffects’ Freeform AE. The plug-ins displacement map functionality is put to good use for creating a medusa, or, to use the more common word, a jellyfish. For reasons of simplicity, multiple separate comps with individual camera views are used for the 3D part and the result is only moved in 2D in the main comp. Project also requires Trapcode Particular, version 1.5 or higher.

Spinning Things

Spinning Things

Inspired way back then by a project in Digital Anarchy’s Chaos Stock, I re-created some pieces for the learning experience and expanded it later by including my beveled cube from my “3D objects” set. As an alternative, a variation with electrons spinning around an atom core is included. Revisited and cleaned up in After Effects 7 to cater for enhanced options with 32bpc effects and layer blending.
