Glittermania

Glittermania

This is an exploration of a technique to produce glittery/ sparkly effects using standard effects. The package contains all projects shown in the images and video, including the Christmas baubles that respond to camera motion by ways of expressions. You will need Element 3D and Shapeshifter to open the respective files.

Note: Refer to the included PDF file for more detailed instructions in case you need to modify the main expression for your purposes. Otherwise the structure should be self-explanatory based on the names of the items and their usage.

Welcome!

Welcome to my resources for After Effects, Cinema 4D and whatever I come up with and what you think might be useful. Please note that all the stuff provided here is meant for learning and experimentation. You may use it for commercial projects as well, but if you do so, do the decent thing and donate a few bucks. You can do so by clicking on the button below to make a donation.

PayPal - The safer, easier way to pay online!

Be aware that I cannot offer any form of guaranteed support if you can’t figure out things. You can ask me questions on forums or shoot me a mail, but accept that the stuff being free, you are not entitled to demand anything. Likewise, I reserve the right to withdraw, rework and modify stuff as I see fit. As they say "Availability may be subject to change.".

Note:Though some content may be listed, you will not find it for immediate download. This is due to bandwidth and file size constraints. You will also encounter situations, where only parts of the content are provided instantly or none at all. Such content can be made available and adapted to your needs, but this will need to be on a paid basis via different methods.

Blob Variations

Blobs

This is an exploration of the new features in Plexus 2. As announced earlier on my blog, here is the project file for your own experimentation.

Note that all effects are created using Plexus‘ primitives and linked to reference layers using expressions. Linking is based on the naming convention in the project, so layers not matching the pattern will not drive the primitives, but may still be used inside Plexus using the Layer Object for instance.

The Slicer

The Slicer

This idea was based on some discussion on how to mimic a slitscan effect with conventionally shot footage. While it does not provide the exact look, it offers an alternative to using gradients with time displacement. It can also be used to create interesting patterns by sampling randomly moving objects at different times as illustrated in the image – the circles are sliced into a bunch of strips and form these interesting jagged structures.

The Slicer

Furthermore this could be used for transition effects. The project provided will only work well with broader strips due to how it uses linear wipes for the cropping. Smaller sizes will not correctly align due to the antialiasing. A little experimentation may be required to find a good setting.

Star Struck

Star Struck

This is a design exploration with Element 3D as shown in the corresponding video. The elements were imported separately, then colorized and arranged. The primary intent was to create some interesting DOF and use this as a background for text.

Fur Text

Fur Text

This is a tech demo for Element 3D as shown in the corresponding video. The hair is a single element distributed using the layer replicator type. This method can be used for all sorts of fur, fibers or dense vegetation like grass or grain fields.

Symmetrion

Symmetrion

Symmetrion is a toolbox of projects that allows you to create mesh and grid structures easily, deal with large amounts of points easily and, most importantly, provides an easier way of creating deformations in FreeForm Pro, including symmetrical "modelling". Please refer to the PDF document in the package for more details.

Sprite Grid

Sprite Grid

Once more based on a question from a user on a forum, this project illustrates two techniques that you can use to create a dithered/ bitmapped look as in those old 8bit video games. By defining custom shapes, you could even use other geometric forms as the shape of each "pixel", e.g. stars or dingbat symbols from a font.

Screen Mask

Screen Mask

This project contains two compositions that allow you to make your footage look as if viewed on a TV or computer screen. Unlike in other, simpler setups that use colored graphics and blending modes, e.g. such as Mark Coleran seems to use them, the colors of your image are truly split according to the RGB triplets found in CRT and LCD screens, then recombined with the pattern being introduced. Because of that, it even produces correct Moiré patterns when modifying the angle of view on a 3D layer.

Note: Due to the way how After Effects interpolates values of neighboring pixels and may turn them all into a gray blob, it is recommended you work at very large composition sizes so you can use larger values for the cell sizes

Old Film v2

Old Film

Just with standard effects that come with After Effects, this setup simulates aged and damaged film. From dust and scratches to hairs and light bleed, anything can be simulated. Each effect is on a separate adjustment layer, so you can just turn it off if not needed or adjust its parameters. This revised version features two setups – one for colored film stock and one for black and white.
